About Us
EERI Student Chapter at UC Irvine has been established to engage students in earthquake engineering, to provide context to earthquake engineering research and education, and to afford students networking opportunities with earthquake engineering professionals. Student members of EERI also gain the valuable experience of interacting with a professional organization, which is an important part of their future as earthquake professionals.
The UCI Team first participated in the Seismic Design Competition in 2011, ranking 13th - well above prestigious universities such as UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, UBC, GaTech, UCLA, Purdue and UB. After a brief hiatus, the UCI Team participated in the 2015 competition and ranked 14th overall.

The Earthquake Engineering Institute
The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute is a national, nonprofit, technical society of engineers, geoscientists, architects, planners, public officials, and social scientists. EERI members include researchers, practicing professionals, educators, government officials, and building code regulators.
EERI's Mission: To reduce earthquake risk by advancing the science and practice of earthquake engineering, by improving understanding of the impact of earthquakes on the physical, social, economic, political and cultural environment, and by advocating comprehensive and realistic measures for reducing the harmful effects of earthquakes.
EERI’s Vision: A world in which potential earthquake losses are understood and steps have been taken to reduce them to an acceptable level.
EERI's Role: EERI is recognized as the authoritative source for earthquake risk reduction information in the U.S., and in partnership with other nations, will develop earthquake risk reduction information worldwide.
